Housing provides for the homeless, for those migrating from rural areas, and for people living in overcrowded or mixed housing.
The Housing program tackles a problem that is of particular urgency in urban Egypt. Over 42% of the population is concentrated in smaller urban areas, and there is a great deal of migration that occurs within the country due to other societal factors such as unemployment. As a result, housing availability has emerged as a serious problem in significantly overpopulated areas. The consequences of this crisis are severe and include mixed housing where families of different religions are constrained to live together in a single one-family apartment, usually having to share a single bathroom. This program also assists those who are living in homes without running water, electricity, or proper sanitation.
